Rocky garden
The collection of rock garden and ornamental plants of the National Botanical Garden of Iran is one of the oldest parts of the garden, this area is divided into three parts: rock garden, waterfall and display area, this piece with an area of 7 hectares has been established with the following goals:
1. The existence of a collection of trees and shrubs in the Mediterranean region for horticultural and botanical research.
2. Creating an educational ground for visitors to the garden in order to get acquainted with foreign ornamental plants, conducting compatibility tests on plants, and selecting and introducing suitable ornamental plants for creating green spaces.
The rock garden is located on the land of Mahori Hill and has tried to reflect the natural landscape. The stones used in the rock garden are collected from the surrounding mountains and the sidewalks are made of natural carcass stone. In this part, several hills have been designed that have been separated by rocks, and in the rocks, new species that have been imported to the country for the first time have been cultivated, among the planted plants, you can see very interesting species of cover plants and flowering shrubs, which has created a unique collection. In this part, a pond has been built, the water of which is supplied by a small stream from a hill upstream. In this stream and pond, a variety of aquatic plants such as Water Lily, cattail and Yellow Flag have been cultivated, and seasonal plants are cultivated around this pond to create a beautiful landscape. In the waterfall section, a waterfall and a lake are beautifully designed and built. It is one of the most beautiful and oldest parts of the Botanical Garden. The waterfall with a height of 8 meters has given it a special effect. Rock laying has been done using natural stones collected from the mountains around the institute. The water of the lake and the water circulation system is transferred to the upper part of the hill and flows into the lake in the form of a waterfall. The area of the Mediterranean lake is 2,500 square meters. Designed for the purpose of planting and maintaining aquatic plants, ponds have been created around it.
The waterfall valley has been designed very beautifully with pieces of natural stones in various sizes, and gardens have been established for planting plants, which include various seasonal plants and ornamental shrubs.
The display section includes a variety of tree and shrub species, many of which are non-native and have been imported from the HILLIER nursery in England; the walkways in this area are separated by hedges of Littleleaf boxwood. The irrigation system of this part is rainy. This collection is designed to be refreshing in all seasons.
