Irani-turanian vegetation

Irani-turanian vegetation covers a large part of Iran. This area is divided into two parts, mountainous and plain, according to the height above sea level (altitude). In the Iranian-Turanian habitat of Botanical garden, the plain part of this area is considered. The plain part has a height between 800 and 1500 meters’ altitude. The average rainfall in this area is 250 mm, while in some places the maximum rainfall is 50 mm. The average temperature of the hottest month of the year ranges from 30 to 40 degrees Celsius and the average temperature of the coldest month of the year varies up to 5 degrees Celsius.

Most of the deserts, fabkha and sand dunes in the central part of Iran are located in the Iranian plains of Irani-Turani. The vegetation of the Iranian-turanian region is mostly consists of Artemisia sieberi species. In addition, different species of Astragalus, Zygophylum, Pteropyrum, etc. are present in different areas.

In this habitat of botanical Garden of Iran, the plains section of the Iranian Turani vegetation zone has been created. They include halophyt vegetation, which are located next to a Salt Lake.
